Hi,
The year is about to bid adieu to everyone in a couple of days. So i guess, this is about time for me to have a small list of sporting events which i found to be startling in every manner, good or bad, but large enough to shake me at the least.
Number 5: The Tour de France legend Lance Armstrong was stripped of his medals. I was like this --> :O in front of my T.V. The man was my one of the two reasons of watching Tour de France every season. The first one being, the beautiful and picturesque country of France. But hey, the man could NOT have done at all what they were showing in the media. I mean, the legacy, the seven-time champion of the race, was it all rigged ? I still, to this date do not buy it even though the dope tell a different story.
Number 4: Not sure if putting it here is 'wrong' on my part as many Sachin fans would find it to be. But i do think, the decision was right and came at a fairly apt time. He has done volumes for the country, something which neither a bullet nor even a whole blog can speak of if dedicated. The little master's journey will always be spoken of on the first page of a book which speaks of Cricket. The champion has left a spot behind, but when i look at the prospects we might try to bring in, his records, his strokes, his masterclass outweighs them all.
Number 3: I find this a good sign and hence, apt for this position. Our Hockey team having faced mockery at the Olympics did something spectacularly unbelievable a few weeks back. The Champions Trophy 2012, one of the most coveted events in the sport was hosted by Aussies in the city of Melbourne. India got the ticket as a wildcard nation. And Kaaboom..we finished fourth. Above Germany, you hear that ? :D
Coach Nobbs had brought in some fresh legs, the goalie was changed too. The youthful effort did it or perhaps the combined expertise of coach and the team. Whatever it was, i am certain that if we continue like this, the golden days for our national sport aren't too far to be fetched. Chak De !
Number 2: The EURO 2012. They aptly call it the mini WC. And the Spanish team finished right on top with their hands on the silverware. I was mad to the utmost that night. Messages being delivered like bullets to the opposition team supporters a.k.a Haters. This is more of a tradition now. Cell-phones, Facebook timelines are the evidence.
Spanish team had given all the countrymen and fans like us continent apart a reason to cheer. The Treble was home. The world had been painted red once again. Finally, even the critics were speculating, "Are we watching the best team ever ?". Every time i'd say, "Seriously ? What was your first clue ?"
Number 1: 2012 being an Olympic year, was more than a Sports-fan could ask for. I have developed a peculiar taste of watching and enjoying any sport, be it highlights of a game on T.V. The month of this splendid extravaganza was a dellllighhtt to me. I watched Equestrian, without knowing what its rules are. Thanks to the flash on the screen, i got to know the name. :D
Well, the moment of delight wasn't one, there were 6. heroes for the country who fought like champions and paved their way to the glorious podium. Vijay's bronze fight or be it Sushil's Daav, everything caught me right in the face of the T.V. screen, jumping out of anxiety as to what might end up being the result. We didn't bag a Gold but we did make an all time record. This medal haul by us had beaten many developed nations too (Won't give names here :p). I wish we make it to the Top 25 list in Rio 2016. Yeah, but all this once the ban due to the stupidity of our own officials is resolved and is followed by a whole hearted approach to betterment of sports in India. Amen !
P.S.: This list has been formulated as per the blogger's personal likings and views. No offence to anyone. Happy Playing/watching.
Peace.
